The Barbican is the last chronologically element in the development of Warsaw's medieval defensive walls
The Barbican, the so-called tower at the Laziebna Gate, was built between 1548 and 1550. It is an example of the few preserved defensive facilities of this type characteristic of medieval and modern fortification construction in Poland and Europe. Its present form was determined by a reconstruction based on surviving wall relics and iconographic materials
