Ogród Saski

Baroque statues, a famous fountain, monuments and tree-lined avenues in a manicured public park

At first there was a manor house, then a magnate's palace, and when the estate was bought by King August II the Strong - a royal palace with a garden worthy of a ruler. It went down in Polish history as the country's first public park and as the site of the first free-standing theatre building erected specifically for the stage. It was also here that the first Polish films were premiered.
Today, all that remains of the Saski Palace is a fragment of the colonnade with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and there is not even a trace of the theatre, or rather two theatre buildings, but the Saski Garden is still going strong and is one of the most important green spots in the capital's city centre
