Barbakan Krakowski

A fortified gate from the late 15th century, formerly connected to the city walls and now part of the Historical Museum

The Barbican in Krakow is one of the few surviving barbicanes in Poland. It was built in the 15th century in front of the Florian Gate. Its function was to precede the entrance to the city. The Barbican is a section of a circle with an inner diameter of just over 24 metres. The thickness of its walls reaches as much as 3 metres.
